A Grand Slam for Ugandan Sports: The Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium Reborn

Godfrey Kirumira

Greetings, sports enthusiasts and fellow patriots.

As the Patron of the Kwagalana Group, I had the privilege of joining other members on a tour of the newly redeveloped Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium and I am thrilled to share the momentous achievement.

This marks a significant stride in the realm of Ugandan sports as well as a testament to the power of private initiative in nation-building.

The transformative undertaking, orchestrated by our very own visionary Hamis Kiggundu (Mr/Hajji), is nothing short of a grand slam for Ugandan sports undescoring his commitment to the sports fraternity and the nation at large culminating a state-of-the-art stadium.

What was once a historic but aging monument has been reborn into a multi-disciplinary sports complex, accommodating football, netball, basketball, and boasting a world-class gym tailored for boxing and weightlifting.

This privately funded endeavor is a prime example of an individual using their success to give back to the community that has supported them and as the former Chairman of the beloved Express Sports Club, I can't help but express my utmost appreciation for this transformative project.

The 25,000-seater stadium is not just a facility; it's a statement. It stands as a symbol of the potential that lies within our nation and the heights we can reach when private entities invest in public spaces. This isn't just a victory for sports; it's a win for all Ugandans.

Now that we have this splendid facility at our disposal, I extend a heartfelt appeal to the sports fraternity, fans, and other benefactors alike. Let's make effective use of this gift.

Let's fill the stands with cheers, let the roar of victory echo within its walls, and may it become a breeding ground for champions across various disciplines.

But, as we revel in its glory, let's also remember our responsibility to protect, preserve, and maintain this sports marvel. It's not just for us; it's for the generations that follow.

I'd like to highlight the commitment of the Kwagalana Group to the betterment of the societies in which our businesses operate.

My resounding appreciation goes to you Mr. Hamis Kiggundu, the man behind this monumental transformation. Your exceptional efforts have surely set your legacy in stone. Thank you for this remarkable gift to Uganda.

Here's to a new era in Ugandan sports, and may the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium continue to be a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Godfrey Kirumira,

Honorary Consul of Namibia to Uganda.
